B.M. in Music Performance & Pedagogy
The Bachelor of Music in Music Performance and Pedagogy provides rigorous musical training to prepare students for a performance and/or private teaching career.

Students may choose a concentration in Piano, Voice, Guitar, String, Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion.

Piano Studies

In addition to private lessons and weekly performance/repertory classes for developing solo playing, piano students have the opportunity to take courses in chamber music, accompanying and pedagogy. Regular instruction by three resident piano faculty is supplemented by master classes with visiting artists. Instruction in jazz piano is available. In addition to required recitals, a performance with the Rangsit Philharmonic Orchestra is available through an annual competition. Numerous opportunities for experience and employment as accompanists are available to qualified pianists.

Vocal Studies

Excellent facilities are provided for the diverse Vocal Studies program, in which the voice major may explore a variety of repertoire and performance experience in individual studio repertoire classes, opera theatre scenes and full productions, RSU Chorus, Chamber Choir, and Women's Chorus. Through private instruction, the program provides intensive study of vocal technique and literature, performance practice covering a broad spectrum of vocal styles, including bel canto and contemporary, and preparation for entry into the professional world of performance and teaching.

Guitar Studies

In addition to taking specialized courses in guitar studies including private lessons and guitar and mixed ensemble, students also work directly with the numerous guest artists that periodically perform and teach at RSU.

String Studies

Excellent facilities are provided for this program in which the all string players receives private weekly lessons, and participates in master-classes by renowned guest artists, studio classes, and monthly string seminars. The intensive study of chamber music is at the core of the performance curriculum, and students are encouraged to perform and explore technical and musical ideas with their colleagues. Other performing activities include the Rangsit Philharmonic Orchestra, the Opera Orchestra, solo recitals, and participation in the 20th-century music ensemble. The rich musical environment at RSU provides the aspiring string player with the necessary background to meet the challenges of a professional musical career.

Woodwind Studies

In addition to taking specialized courses in various woodwind studies, students also study woodwind chamber music, tone development through interpretation, articulation, and intonation in a weekly woodwind Repertoire Class. Excellent facilities are provided for the program, in which the woodwind students may explore a variety of repertoire through participation in the university orchestra, wind ensemble and chamber ensembles. Through private instruction, group rehearsal, and reed making classes, the program provides intensive study in preparation for chamber and solo recital performances. The musically rewarding environment at RSU will expose students to the technical skills, musical knowledge, performance experiences and artistic standards necessary to meet the variety of musical demands encountered in the professional world today.

Brass Studies

In addition to private study, the brass student may explore a variety of repertoire through participation in the university orchestra, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble and the brass quintet. Advanced RSU brass students launch their careers through free-lance performing and private teaching in the Bangkok Metro area. RSU brass students are routinely hired by organizations such as the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, Siam Philharmonic Orchestra and theatrical companies.

Percussion Studies

Excellent facilities are provided for this diverse program, in which the percussionist may explore a variety of repertoire through participation in the University Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Contemporary Music Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. Through private instruction, the program provides intensive study of the snare drum, timpani, mallet keyboards, and multiple percussion, as well as hand-drum classes in Indian tabla and Thai percussion. In addition to the study of percussion ensemble literature, orchestral excerpts, contemporary chamber music, and ethnic percussion, the student will be exposed to a variety of solo literature, in preparation for recital performances.
