The applicants to the Bachelor of Music degree must meet the following requirement:
Hold a high school diploma or equivalent degree.
Turn in a complete application form and other related documents.
Successfully pass the audition process.
Each area of concentration has unique course requirements. Students interested in a B.M. degree are encouraged to discuss the details of the program with a faculty advisor in the Music Department.
Application Form
Because of flooding in Rangsit University, Pathumthani Campus, you can buy a 300 baht - application form and apply the program at
Admission Office (temporary), 6th floor, Sathorn Thani 1 Building, North Sathorn Road, Bangkok. Telephone number is 0-2636-8383. Website: www.sarthorn.net (staff in duty is Khun Omsin). Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8.30 a.m. – 4.30 p.m. except Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. (We will move back to Pathumthani Office on January 5th, 2012).
7-Eleven and then submit an application form at the Sathorn Thani Admission Office until January 4th 2012.

Audition to the B.M. degree is held four times between October and May annually. As space is limited, propective students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Please note that scholarship consideration will be made towards those applying for the first three auditions only.

Audition Schedule
Applicants who pass the audition, please meet Secretary for Academic and Research, Khun Suphaporn Sukhatunga (Pee Phueng) at Secretary Office, 10th floor, the Conservatory of Music, Rangsit University, then go to 1st floor, Artit Urairat Building (#1) to pay the registration fee.
Registration Dates for 1st Audition is January 9th -13th, 2012.
Registration Dates for 2nd Audition is January 16th -20th, 2012.
Registration Dates for 3rd Audition is March 19th -23rd 2012.
Registration Dates for 4th Audition is May 2nd -11th, 2012.

All prospective B.M. students must take the following examinations on the audition date:
1. Music Theory
The examination covers:
Clefs (treble, alto, tenor, bass)
Intervals (perfect unison to augmented eighth)
Scales (major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor)
Scale degrees
Key signatures
Triads and their inversions
Time signatures (simple and compound).

2. Aural Test
The examination covers:
Matching given pitch(es) by singing
Rhythmic sight reading (sixteenth notes to half notes and rests, possibly with ties and slurs, no triplet)
Melodic sight singing (four consecutive pitches from a pentatonic scale).

3. Major Audition
All students, including those concentrating in Music Composition, Music for Film and Multimedia, and Music Production, must take a Major Instrument Audition. See the requirement for your instrument below:
Composition
Submission of portfolio of 2-3 original compositions showing competence in working with small and/or large forms (binary, ternary, theme and variations, rondo, sonata, etc.), for solo instrument or small ensembles. Whenever possible students should submit CDs of performances.
A 30-minutes composition examination. A theme or motif is provided from which an applicant is required to create a short piece. |
Music for Film and Multimedia
A 30-minutes composition examination. A subject is provided from which an applicant is required to create a short piece.
Basic knowledge in computer music, including music software such as notation and MIDI/audio editing software.
Interview |
Music Production
Basic knowledge in audio engineering and computer music, including signal flow, microphones, speakers, music software such as notation and MIDI/audio editing software.

Piano
Scales and arpeggios, up to four sharps and flats.
A Prelude and Fugue or an Invention by Bach.
Two contrasting movements, preferably from different style periods, from the standard repertory for piano. Selections may be drawn from sonatas, preludes, suites, etudes and short pieces by such composers as Beethoven, Debussy, Chopin, Liszt, Bartok, Mozart and others. Memorization is required.

Voice
Two songs/arias in contrasting styles; memorization required. At least one song must be in Italian.

Classical Guitar
Scales and arpeggios, up to four sharps and flats.
A pavan or elementary fantasia by Milan, Dowland or Narvaez.
A movement from a suite by Visee or Roncalli.
A study or a movement from a sonatine by Sor, Carcassi, Giuliani, Aguado or Carulli.

Violin
3 octaves scale in key D major, E major, F major, C minor (Harmonic), B minor (Melodic), A minor.
2 pieces that show the ability of the auditioner, one fast, one slow for example 1st movt. of the Mozart violin concerto and slow movt. of Bach: sonatas und partitas.

Viola
Two-octave scales and arpeggios.
One etude or caprice at least as advanced as Kreutzer's.
A movement of a standard viola concerto, or a standard violin concerto transcribed for the viola (i.e. Telemann, J.C. Bach, Handel, Stamitz, Hoffmeister Viola Concertos, or a Vivaldi or Mozart Violin Concerto).

Cello
Two-octave scales and arpeggios.
A movement of unaccompanied Bach.
A movement from a sonata or concerto of the candidate's choice.

Double Bass

Jazz
Three selections of contrasting styles, as outlined below, on the applicant's primary instrument should be prepared for the audition. In addition, applicants should also be prepared to demonstrate skills in sight-reading. Rhythm section players will be asked to read a variety of jazz literature as well as playing and comping time. Drum set players should be prepared to demonstrate a variety of drumming styles including, but not limited to, up-tempo and medium swing, jazz waltz, funk, shuffle, and a selection of Latin rhythms.
Auditions are held in Studio A in the Music Technology Center. A four-piece drum set, a grand piano, and bass & guitar amps are provided. Drummers must supply their own cymbals.
The format for the entrance audition is as follows:
Three prepared selections (voice, woodwind, brass, piano, bass, and guitar). Demonstrate your knowledge of the melody and your ability to improvise over the chord changes. Play-a-long CD tracks, recorded in the standard keys, will be provided for your accompaniment. You are welcome to bring in your own CD accompaniment tracks if you prefer.
